This bowl’s form is based on the signature Suga Pottery tea bowl, scaled slightly larger for everyday use. It sits comfortably between tea bowl and ramen bowl — ideal for a first course of soup, rice, or small composed dishes, while still retaining the intimate, hand-held presence of a chawan.
This bowl was glazed from local Hudson Valley clay, oak ash from my wood stove, and stone from my home state of South Dakota, a reminder of the hundreds of years of tradition and the careful passing down of the Way of fire and clay.
